Testimonials

The 21st annual PROFIT 100 issue, which hit newsstands on June 4, profiles Canada's 100 fastest-growing companies. This year, the list of successful performers includes Targray Technology International of Kirkland, QC, Elastic Path Software of Vancouver, BC, Collect Canada of Newmarket, ON, and, yours truly, Toronto’s officialCOMMUNITY at number 39.

Even when times are good, growing a strong company is fraught with many challenges, such as securing financing, attracting good employees to outrunning cash-flow crunches. Add a deep recession into the mix, and for most, the task would be near impossible. What's remarkable this year is that despite the economy, the elite companies gracing the PROFIT 100 list have grown their annual revenue by an average of 2,262% over the past five years. Plus, no company on the list grew by less than 899%, and an impressive 76 ended 2008 in the black.

Clearly, it takes something exceptional to rank among the entrepreneurial elite of the PROFIT 100—especially in 2009. One quality that is in abundance and has obviously served these entrepreneurs well is unabashed optimism.

"We asked these leaders to look into the future and most said that the general business environment will continue to struggle, but their own companies will flourish," says PROFIT editor-in-chief Ian Portsmouth. "They are blazing the path to prosperity, not only with their products and processes, but also with their optimism, which is wonderful to see in this economic climate."
